For informational use only. Confirm current purchase eligibility, payoff scope, taxes, fees, and remaining obligations directly with the lessor. Financing figures are estimates using the terms you enter.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Obtain a current written purchase quote from the lessor and enter its amount.
  2. 2Separate taxable and non-taxable fees, then enter a confirmed tax assumption and comparison value.
  3. 3If financing, add cash down, a loan APR, and term to estimate the new loan payment.

How the result is built

Purchase cost = lessor quote + taxable fees + tax on that combined base + non-taxable fees. Financing principal is purchase cost − down payment. Equal monthly payments use a standard amortizing loan formula; the comparison value is supplied by you.

An example from the lot

A $22,000 purchase quote, $350 taxable fee, 7% entered tax, and $200 other fees total $24,114.50. With $3,000 down, the new-loan principal is $21,114.50. Compare that purchase cost with an independently supported vehicle value.

A practical guide to this calculation

A lease buyout discussion starts with a current purchase quote, not just the residual printed at lease signing. This calculator organizes the quote, additional fees, an entered tax assumption, and a possible new loan. It also compares the purchase cost with a value you supply, so the inputs behind the comparison remain visible.

Worked example using the starting values

A $22,000 purchase quote, $350 taxable fee, 7% entered tax, and $200 other fees total $24,114.50. With $3,000 down, the new-loan principal is $21,114.50. Compare that purchase cost with an independently supported vehicle value.

Purchase cost with entered tax and fees
$24,114.50
Entered tax estimate
$1,564.50
Amount financed after down payment
$21,114.50
Estimated monthly loan payment
$428.13
Estimated interest over loan
$4,573.06
Comparison value minus purchase cost
$885.50

Confirm what the purchase quote already includes

Ask the lessor for a quote valid for the expected purchase date and identify the eligible purchaser. The amount may differ from the lease-end residual, particularly before the contract ends. Enter the quoted amount and keep its expiration date in your own records; this tool does not request or validate a payoff.

Do not add a fee twice. The taxable-fees field is for additional fees outside the quote that belong in your chosen tax base. The non-taxable-fees field adds costs outside that base. If the quote already includes tax or a particular fee, reconcile those lines before entering another amount here.

Separate the purchase decision from the new loan

Purchase cost is shown before down payment because paying more cash changes financing, not the underlying cost to acquire the vehicle. The comparison-value difference also uses that pre-financing purchase cost. A positive difference is only a comparison of your entered figures, not evidence of a guaranteed resale profit.

If financing is planned, the calculator subtracts cash down and estimates equal monthly loan payments at the entered APR and term. A zero APR divides principal evenly by the number of months. Interest is the modeled payment total minus principal; loan fees or different payment timing can change a real offer.

Check value and remaining obligations independently

Use a supported value that fits the question: a retail replacement comparison is different from what the dealership would pay for the car. Neither a selling advertisement nor this calculator establishes an achievable sale price. Inspect condition, mileage, and actual transaction costs before drawing a conclusion from the value difference.

Confirm with the lessor whether the purchase quote settles all relevant obligations and whether any remaining payments or other charges still apply. This page does not assume that purchasing automatically waives every return-related amount. The lease-mileage tool is a separate pace estimate, not a source of payoff or purchase-option terms.

Common questions

Can I use residual value instead of a current buyout quote?

Use the lessor's current purchase quote whenever you are evaluating an actual transaction. A residual is one contract figure, while a current quote may include or exclude other obligations. The calculator cannot turn an old residual into a verified payoff.

Does the tax field know my state or county?

No. It applies the entered percentage to the purchase quote plus the additional taxable fees. Your jurisdiction may use a different base or treatment. Confirm the correct purchase-tax calculation and enter a matching scenario rather than treating this as a tax lookup.

Does a positive value difference mean I should buy?

It means only that the supplied comparison value exceeds the calculated purchase cost. Financing, condition, alternatives, future expenses, and the reliability of that value still matter. This tool organizes the numbers and makes no purchase recommendation or credit decision.
